Magma Techie Yatin Trivedi unfolds DFT DFM at BITS Pilani

Released on: February 5, 2008, 2:33 am

Press Release Author: Dr BR Natarajan

Industry: Electronics

Press Release Summary: He firmly believes in the Randall R. McBride, Jr. quote
"Success will not lower its standard to us. We must raise our standard to success."

Press Release Body: Yatin Trivedi is Director of Industry Partnership Programs at
Magma Design Automation. He works with IP and Library suppliers, and EDA tools
vendors to establish comprehensive supply chain solutions around Magma's RTL2GDS
design implementation and analysis flows. He represents Magma on various standards
organizations to ensure format level interoperability of design flows. He also
manages Magma's world-wide University program.

Yatin has worked at AMD and Sun Microsystems. He founded Seva Technologies as one of
the early Design Services company in Silicon Valley. He co-authored the first book
on Verilog HDL and was the Editor of IEEE 1364 standard. He also started, managed
and taught in VLSI Design Engineering curriculum at UC Santa Cruz extension.

Yatin was in India on Jan 22-23 at Bangalore for the MUSIC (Magma Users Summit on
Integrated Circuits) which is dedicated to providing an open forum for users to
share and exchange ideas on how they use Magma solutions to meet the challenges of
IC and SoC design. On Jan 24th, Yatin took time from his busy schedule to visit
Pilani Rajasthan where his alma mater Birla Institute of Technology and Science
(BITS) is located. He delivered a lecture on Design for Testing, Testability and
Design for Manufacturing which was organized by BITS Alumni Association (BITSAA).

In his lecture Yatin pointed out that since meeting design constraints such as area,
timing and power are becoming more difficult at nanometer technologies, designers
are struggling to maintain predictable schedules and highlighted the importance of
design-for-manufacturability and design-for-test in ramping up advanced products in
deep-submicron technologies apart from set of techniques used to modify the design
of semiconductors in order to make them more manufacturable by improving their
functional yield, parametric yield, reliability etc

Proud to be a BITSian, Yatin also interacted with senior officers and professors in
the Institute for spearheading cutting edge research in MEMS and for establishment
of a Research Centre for Nanoscience and Technology as alumni initiative at Pilani
Rajasthan.

About BITS Pilani: The Institute which has set a bench mark in industry university
collaboration is one among the top ranking universities in India today offering
degrees in various disciplines presently at Pilani, Dubai, Goa campuses and in the
near future at Hyderabad campus apart from an array of work integrated learning
programmes for HRD of a vast spectrum of Indian corporates.
